St Andrew’s Club is seeking a creative Fundraising & Communications Intern to join our small, friendly Fundraising & Marketing team.
Contract: Part-time, 3-5 days/week (6-month position with opportunity to extend)
Start date: Late March/Early April 2022
Salary: £11.05/hr (London Living Wage)
Location: St Andrew’s Club, Westminster, SW1P 2DG, with opportunity for flexible and remote working

This is an exciting opportunity for a junior Fundraiser/ Marketeer, who would like to further develop their career within the Charity sector. You will support us in creating engaging online content, managing our social media calendar and contributing to wider digital communications, as well as supporting the fundraising grants applications process and supporter events planning and management.
About St Andrew’s Club
St Andrew’s Club in Westminster, the world’s oldest youth club. Established more than 155 years ago, St Andrew’s Club is a registered charity. The Club is a vital resource for the local community, providing value for money opportunities in a safe, attractive environment. Each year we enrich young lives by providing a sense of belonging, fun and informal education to around 500 members, many of whom live locally in Westminster, and come from homes on very tight budgets. The Club is in action seven days a week: we have Senior Club programmes Monday – Friday evenings; we run Junior Club on Monday and Wednesday evenings; we rent out to a Karate Club on Friday and to a performing arts school on Saturday and we field football teams on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition to running programmes during school holidays through the day and into the evenings we have adapted quickly to delivering our services virtually and finding other practical ways to stay connected with our members and their families during Covid-19.
Reporting to the Fundraising & Communications Manager, we are looking for a self-motivated, creative. talented and ambitious Fundraising & Communications Intern, who will have the flexibility and autonomy to own and to run with projects, as well as work alongside the Digital Lead Youth Worker on member-led communications, principally:
- to raise the profile and awareness of our important youth provision and programmes to:
- young people, their parents and our community.
- high net worth individuals (HNWIs), corporate sponsors, local government and other funding partners.
- to support our diversified portfolio of fundraising programmes, which help us in our ambition to raise vital funds for growth and sustainability.
- Work closely with the Fundraising & Communications Manager, to ensure all fundraising campaigns are integrated and digital channels are used effectively for retention and development of supporters;
- Help monitor and report on fundraising campaigns;
- Contribute to the development of high quality, compelling grant applications/ reports to small and medium sized funders;
- Proactively maintain excellent knowledge of digital fundraising practices and campaigns in the sector, including competitor analysis, to ensure the Club’s output is strengthened from best-practice experience and knowledge.
- Work closely with the Fundraising & Communications Manager, to support the delivery of a compelling and inspired communications plan to encourage engagement and peer referral from members; stewardship and donations from supporters. This includes; social media channels, e-shots, The Chronicle Newsletter and press releases;
- Maintain and update the CRM database and develop ownership for mailings;
- Maintain and update the website;
- Monitor and report on performance across the Club’s social media channels and website;
- Work closely with colleagues across the organisation and with our close partners, such as the Young Westminster Foundation, to gather information to ensure relevant and engaging content.
- Support the Fundraising & Communications Manager by helping to plan and deliver our 3-4 annual cultivation receptions and the Fundraising Group’s exciting events programme;
- Help select and manage Third Party Challenge events;
- Help service requests for corporate engagement opportunities.
What we are looking for: The role is ideal for anybody interested in a career in charity fundraising and/ or communications, digital marketing or creative work, and offers flexibility to be shaped by the skillset and interests of the placeholder. It will include training opportunities and the chance to work alongside a diverse range of stakeholders, including other youth charities.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office;
- Strong experience in digital platforms;
- Strong digital creative skills including Canva, Photoshop/ Illustrator, Adobe Effects, WordPress, Final Cut Pro or similar;
- Excellent communication skills to include high level of writing skills;
- Confident numeracy skills;
- Highly organised with a good eye for detail;
- Hard-working, self-motivated professional with a can-do approach.
- A genuine enthusiasm for helping to create opportunities for young people, particularly those facing barriers;
- Educated to A-Level;
- Knowledge/ Experience of digital scheduling platforms, such as Hootsuite, Buffer;
- Knowledge/ Experience in analytics and reporting digital performance;
- Knowledge/ Experience of CRM databases and data management to prepare segmented mail merges;
- Knowledge/ Experience in events management;
- Knowledge/ Experience of the Voluntary sector.
- A willingness to learn and to share learning;
- Ability to concentrate in a busy, sometimes noisy, environment, as well as work comfortably from home with focus;
- Resilient, with ability to keep calm under pressure;
- A team player;
- Accurate, with good attention to detail;
- Results-driven focus;
- Willing to represent the Club at occasional external (evening) events.
