We were delighted that so many of our supporters joined us on Thursday 26th April at a special reception at the State Rooms, Speaker’s House. This was thanks to kind permission from Mr Speaker, The Rt Hon John Bercow, MP, and to Careys Foundation for their generous sponsorship.
Our speakers reinforced our incredible 152-year history and the difference the Club has been making to the lives of local young people. As The Rt Hon Mark Field, MP said “For decades, St Andrew’s Club has provided a haven to young Londoners - a place to explore their interests, a place of safety away from the tumult of the streets, a place to meet likeminded friends and a portal into some of the positive opportunities that the world has to offer”.
A short film made by Club staff and members, showed a glimpse of those positive opportunities, which cost just 50p a night for our 9-14 members. Two of those members were 'official photographers' for the evening and their work can be seen below. A great experience for them both.
We need to continue to find the necessary funding to keep such a unique resource going to help buy opportunities and create life changing experiences for our members. It is easy to make a difference regularly, by setting up a standing order (link to donation form download) or via our on-line giving platform.
A monthly donation of £35 is worth £525 to the Club each year, including Gift Aid. This is the what you might spend on the cost of a frothy coffee every other day for a month. For a member, however, it will pay for a year at the Club. Here they not only ‘stay out of trouble’, but build self-confidence, respect for themselves and others, learn vital skills and experience opportunities to create a positive sense of citizenship.
Please help if you can to keep this precious community asset going for the next 150 years.
