Remembering Rachel Whittaker

12 Jun 2020

We were touched and honoured to received a gift in the will of Miss Rachel Whittaker MBE, JP who died on 7 October 2018 aged 75.

Rachel was a local resident, former Westminster City Councillor - representing Victoria ward and holding the post of Chief Whip - local magistrate, worshipper at St Matthew’s Church and long-time supporter and champion of the local SW1 community. She was appointed to London’s Metropolitan Police Committee in 1995, and continued to serve on its successor body, the Metropolitan Police Authority, established in 2000. In 2002 she was awarded an MBE for services to policing.

For many years Rachel was an honorary steward at Westminster Abbey where her funeral was held.

St Andrew's Club is most grateful for the gift in Rachel's will. She was a wonderful champion of local community causes and a friend of St Andrew’s Club over many years. Her generosity will help us continue to provide opportunities and create life changing experiences for our hundreds of young members.

There is a memorial to Rachel in the pavement at the corner of Victoria Street and Strutton Ground by the side of the NatWest Bank.
