A beautiful church in the Kent countryside was recently crowded with people paying tribute to a remarkable man and a great supporter of St Andrew's Club.
Michael Passmore, a Club Vice President, had been an important part of St Andrew's for many of his 90 years. A man with enormous energy, he helped the Club run a range of activities; hiking up Snowden with a number of Club members was a particular favourite. And his generous support continued to the end of his life with his wish that the funeral service collection should go to the Club.
The service showed that Michael was a man who lived life to the full, and was determined to give others less fortunate than himself the chance to do the same. Emotional readings by his grandchildren underlined the importance of family, and addresses by business colleagues, fellow sailors, friends and neighbours spoke of the selfless drive and integrity he brought to his wide range of interests.
As Barry Walsh, former member, Chairman and now Vice-President says: “Michael was an ever-present and kind supporter of St Andrew's for some 60 years. It was my pleasure to have known him both when I was a member and, in subsequent years, when I became a Committee member”.
A printer by profession, and as a passionate interest to the end of his life, Michael’s funeral sheet was a work of art. It included a super account of his extraordinarily rich life which is reproduced below.
Donations in Michael's memory can be made to the Club via our on-line giving platform.
