An exclusive half day, late spring/summer tour for 10 of the rooftops of Westminster Abbey, led by Ian Bartlett, Deputy Clerk of the Works in aid of St Andrew’s Club

At a date to be agreed between you and Ian*, you will walk* along the roof around the 'crossing' where the Abbey's transepts meet the nave and hear about the architectural history of this world heritage site, a route normally used by the Surveyor of the Fabric of Westminster Abbey, including the current post holder, Ptolemy Dean.

Previous Surveyors of the Fabric included Sir Christopher Wren (1698 and 1723) and Nicholas Hawksmoor (1723-1736). From here you will have spectacular views of the Palace of Westminster across the road.

En route, you will enter Westminster Abbey’s first new tower in almost 300 years, which will create public access to the new Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries - a museum of treasures and curiosities housed in the medieval triforium, the church’s attic gallery. After the roof tour you will be taken to see the Chapter House, a 13th Century octagonal building, one of the largest in the country.

The tour will be followed by tea or coffee in the Cellarium, part of the 14th Century fabric of Westminster Abbey and once used to store the monk's food.
