Comedy night with Jen Brister and guests at St Andrew's Club

04 Feb 2019

Thanks to sponsorship by Smith Square Partners of Pall Mall, on Friday 1st February, St Andrew's Club welcomed 100 people for an evening of comedy with Jen Brister and guests. The Club's main social area was transformed into a cosy and intimate setting fit for performances of comedy, song and dance.

First support act was singer Amira Adora, who has close connections to St Andrew's Club. Amira undoubtedly secured some new fans, performing covers of current hits and her very own song, 'Wild Life Love'. Next to perform were St Andrew's Club grade 6 tap dancing members, Joanna, Italia and Antonio who wowed the audience with their skills learnt at the Westminster School of Performing Arts.

Following an introduction from Ben Mingay of Smith Square Partners, Jen performed her 'greatest hits'; from observations on 'selfie culture' to her anger directed at her Spanish mother, who moved into her house last year. Jen ended her performance by assisting Stephen Oxley, Trustee at St Andrew's Club, in pulling the winning raffle ticket for a graffitti art canvas designed by Adrian, Deputy Club Manager. The lucky winner was Jo Stanghon, longstanding supporter of the Club, who as a committed fan of Jen's was very happy with her personally signed prize!

Our thanks to all the local businesses who donated other raffle prizes: Bonne Bouche, The Barley Mow, The Grafton Arms, The Laughing Halibut and The Tool Shop.

The evening was a huge success and £1,515 was raised from ticket sales, raffle, bar takings, donations and gift aid. £1,515 will pay for three young people to benefit from a year’s membership at the Club, enabling them, not only to ‘stay out of trouble,’ but learn vital skills and experience opportunities to build a positive sense of citizenship.

Many thanks to Jen, Amira Adora, St Andrew's tap dancing trio, Smith Square Partners and the local businesses who assisted in providing raffle prizes for ensuring the event was such a success.
