Our partner charity, Snow-Camp, uses a combination of snow-sports and life-skills to help our Club members who take part grow in confidence and self-esteem, develop as individuals and make positive choices for their lives, particularly towards careers in the snow-sport industry.
The programme is very popular at the Club. One of our members, Laquan, is currently working and studying for his Level 2 ski instructor qualification in Verbier, Switzerland with the Warren Smith Academy. He is well on his way to achieving his goals, which will see him reach dual qualification in both skiing and snowboarding.
Hoping to join him is St Andrew's Club member and current apprentice Aaliyah. Aaliyah has been a member of St Andrew's Club for eight years, joining when she was 13. She joined because she wanted to make new friends and join in activities such as cooking and ballet. She says "St Andrew's Club is very important to me because socialising is hard and I believe that this place breaks those barriers and gives young people something positive and possible even an insight on future careers.”
Before joining St Andrew’s Club and training with Snow-Camp, Aaliyah had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Now, she is working at Ellis Brigham (mountain sports shop), Covent Garden, while studying the NVQ Level 2 in activity leadership. She also helps arrange forum meetings for the younger candidates. She wants to become a professional snowboard instructor and pass her knowledge onto other people, and says the whole experience has helped change her life for the better.
